Blog Reaction #4

For your 4th blog reaction, please read/refer to the post about how to effectively design a survey questionnaire and then create an instrument (10-20 questions) that would help your organization collect useful audience data.

Make sure that each of the following components is included:

Closed-ended questions.
Demographic questions.
Attitude questions.
Behavior questions.
Open-ended questions.

Pay particular attention to question order, especially for the demographic questions and the open-ended questions.

Also, as a general rule of thumb, questionnaires should start with a few generic 'softball' questions so that respondents can ease into the survey. Never begin a questionnaire with the most controversial questions (if you have any, they should be near the end).

Keep in mind that open-ended questions, while useful, are much more difficult to analyze in a survey than closed-ended questions-- which can be coded numerically.

Finally, make sure you use transition statements in your survey.

It's ok to say things like "Ok, now let's talk about your overall TV experience. The next five questions deal with blah blah blah."

Next week, we'll collectively put together the questionnaire that will be distributed across the country.

You can post your questionnaires here, as comments.

Thanks.

Jack

  10. For this week's exercise I chose to create a research instrument known as a Brand Study or Brand Survey. The goal of such a research tool is to understand the effect or "brand lift" an advert has on its audience.

Considering the anatomy of survey design (choosing a topic, selecting cross-sectional or longitudinal design, creating questions, refining wording and question order, planning timeframe and so on), I decided to focus on a topic relevant to a recent campaign that we launched for Lexus and their "crafted line" of vehicles.

Disclaimer: Please note that brand studies are typically delivered immediately following an ad view, they are often as short as possible (sometimes as little as one question to ensure a higher response rate) and the data I selected below, such as competitive brands or primary reasons to buy a car, are for placement only as I do not have the exact info with me.

    Lastly, greetings from sunny Spain!!
