Final Assignment
Good evening,
For your final assignment, you may choose between Option #1 or Option #2.
Option #1 is for those of you who currently have easy access to data that you can analyze to help your organization make more informed decisions.
If this is indeed the case, then I would like you to answer a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 questions that are relevant to your organization.
Please use the following format:
1. Q1: ____________________________________________________________
2. Question Rationale (i.e., why does it matter to the organization to collect data for this question? What difference will it make?)
3. How were the data for this question collected? Please give a brief summary.
4. Data Summary. Please provide a summary of what the data suggest. If you have any kind of data visualizations, feel free to include it here.
5. Are the data "significant?"- not necessarily in the statistical sense, but, rather, in the "does this impact/help us in any meaningful way" sense?
Option #2 is for those of you who do not currently have easy access to data that you can analyze, or for those of you who simply prefer this option.
In this case, perhaps you remember Consumer Barometer (a join project with Google Analytics), the site that allows us to compare various behaviors from around the globe?
You work for Netflix as a manager and have access to data about how how individuals from around the world watch TV.
Netflix has had difficulty growing its subscriber base in Israel, even among those under the age of 25.
The company would like to use data to make an effective decision regarding their strategy in Israel.
To that end, you're tasked with answering the following questions:
1) What percentage of young Israelis still watches TV in the traditional way? That is, what % watch TV on a television set? How does this compare to Americans under the age of 25?
2) Is there any discernible difference between how often young Israelis (under 25) stream online content to their TV sets compared to young Americans? In other words, Netflix wants to know if their difficulties growing in Israel are due to a lack of streaming to TV sets, or if the young Israelis ARE streaming to TVs, but just not streaming Netflix' content.
3) What about streaming to a device other than a TV set? Are young Israelis any different compared to young Americans? Perhaps they're streaming to their smartphones, tablets, or laptops?
4) Are there any differences between "on-demand" viewing patterns of television content between young Israelis and young Americans? That is, are Israelis more or less likely to watch on-demand or recorded programs on a regular TV than their American counterparts? What about watching on other devices?
5) Now that you've collected these data and have answered the appropriate questions, the higher-ups want to know your opinion about what can be done to grow the service among young people in Israel. What do you tell them? What data-based decisions will you recommend?
